China's Einstein Probe (EP) astronomical satellite, sent into space in January this year, has captured its first in-orbit detection images, which were presented at a parallel forum of the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing on Saturday. Inspired by the functions of lobster eyes, EP uses new X-ray detection technology to observe mysterious transient phenomena in the universe that flicker like fireworks.
Scientific researchers and engineers are speeding up the construction of CRAFT as the project, a facility in pipeline, serving as a platform on which key components for fusion energy reactors are developed and tested, is expected to be finished in 2025.
Chinese scientists reconstructed a 3D model of a human embryo within two to three weeks after fertilization, which opens a new door into very early human embryonic development. The researchers from the Institute of Zoology, at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and China Agricultural University conducted high-resolution profiling on 38,562 gene spots of a human embryo and then constructed its 3D model by integrating gene expression patterns and spatial information.
The globe has been hit by heat waves, extreme precipitation, wildfires, sandstorms and drought-to-flood abrupt transitions, which, in some cases, overlapped throughout 2023. A team of international scientists find emerging features of these climate and weather extreme events.
