China Develops Its Own Deep Resource Exploration Key Equipment

Jun 20, 2017

"Deep Resource Exploration Key Equipment R&D", a major national research equipment development project that will facilitate mineral resources exploration 500-4000 meters below the surface, was accomplished June 19th, according to the Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The equipment actually includes eight sets of deep resource exploration devices, including airborne transient electromagnetic prospecting device, gravity meter, multi-channel high-power electrical prospecting device, metal mine seismic exploration system, deep deposit logging system and combined seabed seismic exploration equipment.

The reserves of proven staple mineral resources in China are relatively insufficient in face of large demand, affecting its economic development and national security. Only one third of mineral resources are explored, and the remaining are mainly deep mines and concealed mines.

Due to the inherent penetrating power of geophysical field, geophysical exploration technology is the main means to exploit the interior of the Earth.

"With these equipment and technologies, it will provide strong support for China's resources and energy security, and strongly support the national strategy of Marching into the Deep of the Earth," said LI Tingdong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Practical application and industrialization of deep exploration equipment would be achieved in 10 to 15 years, according to WU Fuyuan, director of IGG.
