The Tiangong-2 space laboratory was launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 22:04:09 on 15th September, 2016, and will serve in orbit for more than two years.

The Tiangong-2 space laboratory has scientific research, utilization and technology testing as primary goals. It is equipped by far the most sophisticated utilization system of China Manned Space Program, supporting the research covering a wide range of disciplines, including fundamental physics, astronomy, life science, space materials sciences, etc. The astronauts will take part in two projects in-orbit.

The research in Tiangong-2 will explore the frontier of science and technology. The experience and knowledge gained on Tiangong-2 will provide a solution for man-tending space utilization of a certain scale on a short-term basis, and will be key guidance for the space utilization in Chinese Space Station which will be built in the near future.
