Chinese scientists on Friday produced a steady field of 45.22 Tesla, the highest steady magnetic field by a working magnet in the world. Follow Xinhua correspondent to explore.
On November 13, High Magnetic Field Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CHMFL) achieved great success in the commissioning of the self-designed and self-built hybrid magnet which reaches its premier goal of 40-Tesla and becomes the second strongest steady field magnet in the world. The successful assembly of the two magnets and their reaching the full field of 40 Tesla pay off researchers' eight years of great efforts at CHMFL.
The city is already home to several major scientific projects, including the Steady High Magnetic Field Facility and the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak, which is key to a nuclear fusion reactor. The EAST program is key to both the China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor project and the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project.
