The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on July 7 welcomed its newly elected Foreign Members and convened a high-level seminar on international scientific collaboration in Beijing. The events underscored CAS's commitment to global engagement in science and technology.

CAS President HOU Jianguo presented certificates to the newly-elected Foreign Members attending the ceremony. More than 30 Foreign Members from 17 countries attended the ceremony and the subsequent seminar.

President HOU lauded the Foreign Members for their significant contributions to China's scientific development and global academic exchange in his address. These distinguished scientists "have made remarkable contributions to promoting academic exchanges, cultivating young talents and advancing joint research between China and the rest of the world," he said.

The CAS President highlighted that scientific cooperation is fundamental to building a community of shared future for the mankind. He reiterated CAS's dedication to an open-door policy, actively pursuing international partnerships with research institutions, universities, and organizations worldwide. These collaborations, he noted, are vital for exploring scientific frontiers and addressing global challenges, including climate change, food security and sustainable development.

Looking ahead, President HOU acknowledged the evolving landscape of international scientific exchange, marked by both significant opportunities and challenges. "CAS is looking forward to working with Foreign Members to constantly advance cross-border, cross-disciplinary and high-level sci-tech exchanges and cooperation," he said.

The seminar featured presentations on CAS's operations and academic divisions. Attendees engaged in robust discussions covering the role of national academies in international cooperation, research integrity, ethical governance in science, science policy, public science education, and cultivation of young scientists.

Professor WU Zhaohui, Vice President of CAS, attended the awarding ceremony and the subsequent seminar, together with other members of the Presidium of Academic Divisions of CAS. Professor HE Hongping, Vice President of CAS facilitated the proceedings of both events.

Officials from the CAS Bureau of Academic Divisions and Bureau of International Cooperation also participated in the events.
