CAS Issues Certificates to Newly-Elected Foreign Members

Jun 09, 2014

Four new foreign members inducted into the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) last year received their membership certificates at a symposium held in Beijing June 8 in association with the 17th General Assembly of Members of CAS.

BAI Chunli, President of CAS and the Academic Divisions of CAS issued certificates to Professor Subra Suresh of Carnegie Mellon University, USA; Professor Christian Amatore of École Normale Supérieure (ENS), France; Professor Flemming Besenbacher of Aarhus Universitet, Denmark; and Professor Shou-Cheng Zhang of Stanford University.

Nine foreign scientists from six countries were elected last year as members of CAS, expanding the academy’s foreign membership to 72.

CAS pays great attention to exchange and cooperation with the scientific community around the world, said BAI. Effective and close international cooperation will contribute to “addressing outstanding global issues,” he said.

The academy has established a multichannel talent exchange system for international cooperation at multiple levels. Several joint research centers have been established overseas. More and more foreign scientists have received awards for their contribution to international cooperation with CAS.

The 17th General Assembly of Members of CAS was held June 9 in Beijing.
