LI Xiting, an alumnus of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and now the president of Mindray Medical International Limited, donated 4.8 million Yuan RMB (approx. 720,000 U.S. dollars) to USTC on December 26, 2010.
"As an alumnus of USTC, I feel obliged to give donation to my alma mater for her cultivation on me when I am capable to do so", LI said at the donation ceremony, "I will continue to give support to the development of USTC."
LI shared his entrepreneurial experience with attendees and gave an introduction of his corporation "Mindray Medical International Limited", a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices.
USTC president HOU Jianguo appreciated LI for his generosity and expressed hope that more and more USTC alumni including LI would visit their alma mater at times and make contribution to its development. He also introduced the major achievements of USTC as well as the challenges and opportunities it faces.
LI also pledged to donate annually 200,000 RMB (approx. 30,000 U.S. dollars) to USTC as the President's Fund from 2011 to 2014.
LI received his bachelor’s degree from USTC in 1976. He is the founder of Mindray and has served as director, president and co-chief executive officer of Mindray since 1991.
