Dispatched by the Chinese government, a team of five DNA experts from a forensic center under the CAS Beijing Genomics Institute arrived on Dec. 31 in Thailand to help the local government in dealing with the aftermath of the tsunami tragedy occurred on Dec. 26, 2004.
Right now a simple lab has been set up at the badly hit Phuket, where the CAS experts began the painstaking task of collecting DNA samples from the disaster victims in the hopes of offering families proof of their loved ones. The experts make the identification strictly following international standards to ensure the accuracy of the work.
