As part of its six-day working visit to China, a five-member delegation headed by Dr Philippe Busquin, the European Union Commissioner for Science, visited the CAS Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP) in Hefei on April 11.
The visitors were receive by leaders of ASIPP, HT-7 and EAST (HT-7U) Science Projects. They were shown the ongoing HT-7 superconducting tokamak experiment, the cable-in-conduit-conductor (CICC) jacketing line, vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) for superconducting coils, the winding, manufacturing and testing of poloidal coil of EAST project.
In his talk, Dr Busquin reviewed with satisfaction the long-term cooperation between China and Europe in the field of nuclear fusion, saying that science and technology is crucial for the social and economic development for both parties. The visitors spoke highly of HT-7 experiment, EAST Mega-Science Project construction, especially on its quality control and personnel training. They believed that ASIPP will play an important role in fusion research. Dr Busquin also expressed his wish to intensify Sino-EU cooperation on nuclear fusion and expand the existing cooperation scale.
