GIS for SARS in Beijing is under development

The CAS Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) signed an agreement on May 3 with the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Beijing CDC) to develop a geographic information system (GIS) to map SARS cases. Under this agreement, the IGSNRR will provide Beijing CDC a free GIS for the control and alert of the disease in the city by May 10. It is expected that the technology will be put into official operation by May 20 after the training of its users.
