The State Key Laboratory of Fire Science (SKLFS) under the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) has been entrusted to host the 8th International Symposium on Fire Safety Science (ISFSS) scheduled for 2005. SKLFS Director Fan Weicheng, USCT Professor and a CAS member, was made chairman of the organizing committee.
Sponsored by the International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS), this premier scientific conference will attract the best and most important work of the global fire safety science community everything from fundamental breakthroughs to new best practices.
SKLFS is China' s only state-level research institution that is engaged in the basic research of fire science, covering the mechanism and rules of fire occurrence and spread, and basic fire safety technologies. It is also the only Chinese research institution that was invited to join in the US state-level research program on "The World Trade Center Disaster: Construction and Fire Safety".
SKLFS has also received the financial support from the Major Joint Research Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
