A seminar on plant/animal/human genomics between Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the University of Adelaide was held in Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG), CAS on June 8, 2010.
The seminar was co-hosted by Prof. Jun Yu, vice director of BIG, and Prof. Mike Brooks, deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Adelaide. Prof. Chung-I Wu, director of BIG, and other scientists from the University of Adelaide, BIG, Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, and Institute of Botany attended the seminar. Representatives from the Bureau of International Cooperation and the Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, CAS also participated the meeting.
During the seminar, scientists from China and Australia gave reports on cancer genomics, plant functional genomics, bioinformatics and ancient DNA, sharing their research progress and interests. Both sides also discussed for further cooperation issues, and achieved initial collaboration interests in the fields of cancer genomics, animal genomics and bioinformatics.
The University of Adelaide is a top university in South Australia and a member of the Group of Eight - Australia’s leading universities. CAS and Adelaide has been in close cooperation since 2001. In 2009 both sides agreed to have priority collaboration in fields of agricultural biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, and psychology.
