CAS Vice President JIANG Mianheng held talks with visiting BP Group Vice President Tony Meggs and his delegation on 4 December in Shanghai.

The two parties reviewed with satisfaction the recent developments in co-establishing the Clean Energy Commercialization Center since the conclusion of an MoU for the initiative on 1 August, 2007 in Shanghai. They also exchanged views on the mechanism, research topics and timetable for the Center. In addition, the two sides showed interest in collaborations on such issues as carbon dioxide capture and storage, coal-bed gases, biomass energy, and climate change.

According to the MoU, the Center will strive to become a profitable and world-class platform to identify, evaluate, select, develop and commercialize strategic cleaner coal conversion technologies. At the same time, it will also integrate and consolidate individual technologies from both within and outside CAS into commercially viable technological systems and solutions in order to contribute to China's clean energy development and energy security.
