The CAS Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB) signed a cooperation agreement on Nov. 2 in Kunming with the Thai Ministry of Public Health on the market development for the Compound SH, an anti-HIV herbal medicine.
Prof. LI Dezhu, vice director of KIB, Prof .LUO Shide, inventor of the medicine and Dr. Pongpan Vongmanee, director of the Department of Medical Sciences under the Thai Minitry of Public Health, were among the people to witness the ceremony.
It has been more than one year since the completion of the clinical trial of the compound and its registration in Thailand, the two sides acknowledged, and the condition is ripe for its manufacturing and market development. According to the agreement, the drug will be imported to Thailand within one month, and a large-scale marketing operation will be started within six months to come. KIB will further cooperation with the Thai side in a bid to promote the collaboration for its global marketing.
In cooperation with the Thai Ministry of Public Health, KIB phytochemist Luo and his team succeed in conducting research into drugs that can hold a cure for the epidemic by making use of rich herbal resources in southwest China's Yunnan Province. The clinic research in Thailand during 2000-2003 has proved that the medicine has remarkable curative effect for AIDS patients.
