
Prof. Li Guohao (Li Kuo-Hao), a specialist in bridge mechanics and CAS member who enjoyed high prestige in the community of both at home and abroad died on Feb. 23 in Shanghai. He was 92.
LI Guohao was born in Meixian, Guangdong Province in April 1913. He obtained his first degree from Tongji University in 1936. He was awarded his diploma in engineering from Damstadt University, Germany in 1940 and was awarded his PhD degree from the same university in 1942. He was elected Member of Chinese Academy of Science in 1955 and became Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994. As a well-known expert in bridge structure, structural analysis, he was also the honorary president of Tongji University.
He served as a member of the State Council Degree Awarding Committee for two terms. He is an honorary member of Chinese Association of Science and Technology, an honorary chairman of Chinese Federation of Engineering Society and an honorary Chairman of Chinese Association of Senior Scientists and Engineers. He was invited to act as a member and later director of Wuhan Changjiang River Bridge Technology Committee and Nanjing Changjiang River Bridge Technology Committee. He was appointed the leading consultant of Engineering Technology Committee of Baoshan Steel Plant, head of shanghai Nanpu Bridge Expert Group and head of Consultant Group of Shantou Bay and Humen Zhujiang.
