Under the auspices of the CAS Institute of Hydrobiology (IOH) and the Japanese National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), the Second International Workshop on Mekong River Ecosystem Monitoring was held from Sept 13 to 17 in Kunming, capital of south China's Yunnan Province.
Present at the meeting were more than 50 scholars from Mekong River countries including Thailand, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and China. The meeting was jointly chaired by Prof. Liu Yongding from IOH, Dr. MM. Watanabe from NIES and Dr. Wichien Yongmanitchai from Kasetsart University in Thailand. Dr. Richard D. Robarts from UNEP GEMS/Water Program also attended the conference.
Prof. Liu Yongding made a keynote report on the water environment of lakes and reservoirs at the meeting. And the participants held discussions on the future research plan in the fields of geology, hydrology and biology.
