Promote social and economic development by means of innovation
A group of scholars held a forum titled "the all-round construction of a well-off society and S&T innovation" on August 19 in Beijing. Present at the meeting are some 50 researchers in the field of science, technology, sociology, politics, economics and environment.
At the forum, six experts gave talks on possible future scenarios for China's socio- economic development: a new round of industrialization, urbanization, informationization, globalization, consumer society,and recycling society.
Co-sponsored by the CAS Bureau of High-tech Research and Development, the CAS Bureau of S&T Policy and the CAS Institute of Policy and Management, the forum is an important part of the ongoing CAS research efforts on technology foresight in China over the next 20 years. The project is aimed at analyzing the future scenarios and technology demands of the country in the next two decades and identifying the strategic requirement of the country in terms of social economic development and technology development trends.
In light of national development strategy, and the guidelines and strategies for CAS in the new era, said President Lu Yongxiang at the forum, the project should serve the current efforts to formulate the national long- and mid-term plan for S&T development and to realize leapfrogging development in science and technology.
