Prof. Mu Rongping
Prof. Mu Rongping has been taking the helm of the CAS Institute of Policy and Management (IPM) since May 20, when the Academy named him Vice Executive Director of IPM. He will succeed former IPM director Fang Xin, who left IPM in late April and is now working at the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the China's top legislature.
Mu, a physicist by training, received his Ph. D from the Department of History and Communications of Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, in 2001. He joined IPM in 1990 and was appointed its vice director in 2000. Mu is also Deputy Secretary General of the China High-tech Industry Promotion Society, and the Chairman of the Sub-commission for Science and Technology Policy under the Chinese Association for Science of Science and S&T Policy Research.
Established in 1985, IPM is characterized by interdisciplinary studies of social and natural sciences. The Institute applies itself to theoretical, methodological and applied research into national strategies, policies and management for S&T development. It also provides consultancy services for government departments, local authorities and CAS on issues concerning S&T development, social and economic growth, S&T management and administration of enterprises.
