National Top S&T Award Goes to a Computer Scientist Jin Yilian (left) receives the nation's top award from Chinese President Jiang Zemin (right) for his fundamental contributions to the development of supercomputers of the country.


    Jin Yilian, a computer specialist, has been honored with the top S&T award for his fundamental contribution to the development of supercomputers of the country.

    At an award ceremony held in Beijing on Feb 28, Chinese President Jiang Zemin presented Jin with the five million yuan (over $600,000) "State Supreme Scientific and technological Award" for the year 2002. Five thousand yuan goes to the winner himself, and the rest will be used for future scientific research under his guidance.

    Jin, 74 years old, is the director of the National Engineering Research Center for Parallel Computers, which is affiliated to the CAS Institute of Computing Technology, and the Jiangnan Institute of Computing Technology.
