Two CAS Scientists Houored by Fifth Hua Loo-Keng Mathematics Prize
Two CAS scientists were awarded the 5th Hua Loo-Keng Mathematics Prize on October 31 at Academic Exchanging Center of the University of Science & Technology of China (USTC) in Hefei, Anhui Province.
Jiang Boju, a professor of Peking University, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is a senior researcher in the field of topology. Professor Gong Sheng of USTC has long been engaged in the study of several complex variables and harmonic analysis on group. With fruitful findings in their respective disciplines, the two scholars were commended for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of China's mathematical science.
The Hua Loo-Keng Mathematics Prize, awarded every two years, is the highest honor China confers on its leading mathematicians. It was established in 1992 in commemoration of Hua Loo-Keng, a world-renowned Chinese mathematician. Applicants between 50 and 70 years old are eligible for the prize, which picks up two persons each time. On the previous four occasions, the honor was given to the following CAS Members: Chen Jingrun, Lu Qikeng, Gu Chaohao, Wan Zhexian, Yang Le, Zhou Yuling, Wang Yuan, and Ding Xiaqi.
Entrusted by the Chinese Mathematical Society, USTC hosted the latest prize-awarding ceremony.
