    Open Positions

    1. Full Professors

Current appointment as Full Professor, or, for exceptionally qualified candidates, Associate Professor, at a world-leading university or research institution, with an internationally recognized profile, distinguished academic leadership, and excellence in fields aligned with IHEP’s mission.

    2. Associate Professors

Candidates should hold a PhD and normally have at least three years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience. Applicants are typically expected to be within 15 years of PhD completion and should demonstrate a strong publication record and the ability to pursue independent research. Exceptional candidates may be considered with flexibility in the experience requirement.

Tenure-track Associate Professor appointments are also available.

    3. Tenure-Track Assistant Professors

Candidates should hold a PhD and normally have at least two years of continuous postdoctoral research experience. Applicants are typically expected to be within 6 years of PhD completion and should show research excellence, originality, and strong potential to establish an independent research program.

    4. Key Technologists

Candidates should hold an advanced degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or a related field. A PhD is preferred, though applicants with a Master's degree and substantial R&D experience are also encouraged to apply. Competitive candidates will have a strong record of innovation in instrumentation, detector systems, accelerator technology, or large-scale scientific infrastructure, and are typically expected to be within 15 years of professional experience.

    5. International Postdoctoral Fellowship

IHEP also invites applications for its International Postdoctoral Fellowship, aimed at outstanding early-career scientists who received their PhD within the past three years and who demonstrate an exceptional research record together with a compelling and innovative research proposal.

The fellowship offers dedicated funding, mentorship, and structured career development support.

    What We Offer

IHEP provides a supportive and internationally competitive environment for research and innovation. Depending on rank and appointment type, successful candidates will receive:

    • Competitive salary and benefits package
    • Housing subsidy and access to furnished rental apartments
    • Start-up funding for research or laboratory development
    • Relocation support
    • Social insurance and related employee benefits
    • Assistance with family relocation and children's schooling

    Application Materials

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae. Additional materials, such as a cover letter, research statement, selected publications, or contact information for referees, may be requested depending on the position.

    About IHEP

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) is one of the institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is China' s top laboratory for particle physics. We aim to better understand the universe at the most fundamental level – from the smallest subatomic particles to the large-scale structure of the cosmos. We also seek to apply the knowledge and technology generated by our research for the benefit of humanity. In addition to theoretical and experimental research in particle and astroparticle physics, we conduct a broad range of research in related fields such as accelerator technologies and nuclear analysis techniques. The Institute also provides beam facilities for researchers in other fields of study.

IHEP has multiple campuses. The Yuquan campus is the main campus of IHEP, which located at Yuquan Road in the west part of Beijing, hosting the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, the BESIII experiment, the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility. The Huairou campus, located in the north of Beijing, is home to the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), which is currently under commissioning. HEPS is a greenfield, fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source with an energy of 6 GeV.

The Dongguan campus is one of China's leading national research facilities for materials science (China Spallation Neutron Source, CSNS). It produces neutrons using an accelerator-based system that delivers proton pulses to a tungsten target through a process called spallation. These neutrons are then directed to state-of-the-art instruments that support research across a broad range of disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science. In addition, IHEP operates experiments such as JUNO (Guangdong), AliCPT (Tibet), and LHAASO (Sichuan).
