Chinese researchers have discovered a new species of Apocynaceae in central China's Hubei Province and published their finding in the journal Taiwania.
The new species was named Cynanchum hubeiense by scientists from the Wuhan Botanical Garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden under the CAS.
The species has an extremely small population of fewer than 10 plants, and has been found in just one area of a county in Hubei.
According to the standards of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the new species has been tentatively classified as Critically Endangered. (Xinhua)
