CAS and the National Disabled Person Federation concluded the framework protocol for "an action plan to aid the handicapped with science and technology" on the eve of the 16th National Day of Assisting Disabled Persons.
CAS and the National Disabled Person Federation (CDPF) concluded the framework protocol for "an action plan to aid the handicapped with science and technology" on the eve of the 16th National Day of Assisting Disabled Persons, which falls on the third Sunday of each May.
The agreement was signed by CAS President LU Yongxiang and CDPF President Deng Pufang on May 20 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The ceremony was attended by some 180 representative from CAS institutes, CDPF and its affiliations.
"S&T results should be made to repay society and people" says Prof. Lu, who is also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's top legislature, National People's Congress. It is duty-bound for CAS to assist the handicapped with the S&T means so that they could enjoy the living amenities provided by S&T progress, adds Prof. Lu, who will be an honorary chairman of the leading group for the action plan.
The first batch of 11 R&D projects to aid the disabled was announced at the ceremony, which includes phonetic courses and corrective software development for deaf children.
On behalf of the Academy, CAS Vice President CHEN Zhu, who co-chairs the leading group of the Action Plan, donated a host of S&T products with a total value of more than one million yuan to CDPF at the ceremony.
