Scientists call for strengthening research into stem cells
At a recent meeting of CAS and CAE members in Shanghai, participants made a proposal to carry out stem cell studies with a scientific and rigorous approach and by drawing lessons from the scandal over Hwang Woo-suk's faked stem cell research. They say that efforts should be made to implement interdisciplinary research and resource sharing on the basis of existing work and ensure a healthy and sustainable development of the research in the field.
More than 40 CAS and CAE members and other experts attended the meeting held on March 3 in Shanghai. They made an analysis on the status quo of the development of stem cell and regenerative medicine both at home and abroad, held discussions on such issues as basic research and clinical application of stem cells,, obligations, social responsibility of scientists and ethics readjustment.
