Prof. HUANG Hongwen,
Prof. HUANG Hongwen, director of the CAS Wuhan Botanical Garden (WBG), was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the sixth International Kiwifruit Symposium held from Feb. 21 to 24 in Rotorua, New Zealand.
Under the auspices of the international Society for Horticultural Science, the quadrennial meeting brought together some 250 leading horticultural scientists, nutrition researchers, marketers and producers from 23 countries and regions. Prof. Huang, a member of the Scientific Committee of the conference, was the first keynote speaker to take the floor. The topic of his presentation is " Actinidia in China, natural diversity, phytogeographical evolution, interspecific gene flow and gene discovery for kiwifruit cultivar improvement." Two other WBG horticulturalist , Dr. LI Jianqiang and Dr. LI Zuozhou, were also invited to make presentations on "a revision of the genus Actinidia from China," and "phylogenetic relationships in Actinidia as revealed by nuclear DNA genetic markers and cytoplasm DNA sequence analysis," respectively.
