Co-sponsored by the CAS Shanghai Institute of Ceramics (SIC) and the Shanghai Research Society of Science and Technology of Ancient Ceramics, the 2005 International Symposium on Ancient Ceramics was held recently in Shanghai. Nearly 100 participants from US, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Australia, UK and China attended the conference.
Just like its previous sessions held in 1989, 1992, 1995, 1999 and 2002, this triennial symposium served as an international forum for the exchange of research findings in the science and technology of ancient ceramics and for the presentation of new discoveries on the subject. It also aims at the promotion of mutual understanding and cooperation among scientists, engineers and experts working and teaching in the field, says Prof. LI Jiazhi, executive chair of the meeting. Its topics include scientific and technological insights of ancient ceramics, archaeological discoveries, arts and crafts, kilns, dating and methods, international trade of ceramics in ancient times, and other aspects in the field of ancient ceramics.
