On the initiative of the InterAcademy Council (IAC), seven international organizations of science, engineering and medicine and a UN task force on millennium project recently signed a joint statement, urging the national leaders meeting at the UN General Assembly September 14-16 to take actions without delay for the buildup of strong worldwide S&T capacities. They stress that such capacities are necessary to allow mankind to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.
CAS President Lu Yongxiang signed the statement in his capacity as an IAC co-chair.
