Advisory project on sustainable energy development initiated
The kick-off meeting for a study on the Strategic Research of Mid and Long-term Supplement & Substitute Energy Sources of Petroleum in China was held on March 26 in Beijing, marking the start of an advisory project of the CAS Academic Divisions (CASAD) on key S&T issues China's energy development.
The project is composed of two subcomponents: the strategic research on the medium & long-term supplement and substitute energy sources of petroleum in China, and the development of China's large-scale bases to produce reusable energy sources & related technologies. Through in-depth surveys and analyses, a report is expected to be completed in the first half of 2006 and submitted to the State Council as a reference material for national decision makers.
Chaired by Prof. Yan Luguang and Prof. Chen Junwu, the panel on supplement & substitute energy sources of petroleum decided that the subcomponent will focus the following six topics namely, prediction on petroleum demands, sources and potentials; petroleum liquid fuel derived from coal and natural gas; liquid fuel based on biomass; electrified transportation; hydrogen-driven transport and new kinds of vehicles adaptable to new energy sources.
