Symposium held to commemorate the find of first Pekingman skull
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the discovery of the first Pekingman skull and the 100th anniversary of the birth of its finder Prof. Pei Wenzhong (W. C. Pei), an international symposium of paleoanthropology was held recently in Beijing, attracting more than 100 participants around the world.
Prof. Pei Wenzhong (1904-1982), founding father of Chinese Paleolithic archaeology, discovered the first Pekingman skull cap in 1929 at the Zhoukoudian site.
The conference was organized by the CAS Institute of Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology. It focused on such topics as new discoveries of fossil hominids and Paleolithic remains worldwide, human origins and evolution in East Asia, Pleistocene lithic technology and adaptation in East Asia, new advances in paleoenvironmental and chronological studies east-west human interactions in the Pleistocene, and Prof. Pei's academic contributions and impact.
