Psychologists from across the world convene in Beijing
The 28th International Congress of Psychology (ICP) opened on August 8 in Beijing. Under the auspices of the International Union of Psychological Science, the conference is organized by the Chinese Psychology Society (CPS) with the assistance from the CAS Institute of Psychology.
CAS President Lu Yongxiang, who is also vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, delivered a welcome speech at the opening, He said that the past 125 years have witnessed remarkable achievements in psychology, and he hoped psychologists attending the congress will take the congress as an opportunity to improve cooperation to contribute more to the world's stability and development.
Also present at the opening were Prof. Michel Denis, president of the International Union of Psychological Science, Prof. D Kahneman, 2002 Noble Prize winner in Psychology, CAS Vice President Chen Zhu, and Prof. Zhang Yutai, vice president of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology.
With nearly 6,000 participants from 85 countries and regions, this six-day congress is the largest international academic conference ever hosted by China. It was also the first such meeting to be held by a developing country. About 80 renowned psychologists, including seven from China's mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, will make keynote speeches.
