As a landmark structure of the CAS Institute of Optics and Electronics (IOE) in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, the construction of the main building for adaptive optics has been completed. CAS Vice-President Jiang Mianheng recently attended its ribbon-cutting ceremony.

As one of the three national key labs housed in IOE, an adaptive optics laboratory was established in 1980 and won the approval as a key lab of the national high-tech development program (863 Program) in 1995. It is the only lab in this country devoted to the research and development of adaptive optics application systems. With a floor space of more than 6,000 square meters, the newly completed building will provide state-of-the-art facilities for its researchers.
