An application for enlisting Huanglianshan Mountain in luchun of southeast China's Yunnan Province as a national nature reserve has recently passed the scrutiny of the central authorities. The application was based on a research project headed by Prof. Xu Jianchu from the CAS Kunming Institute of Botany.
Established by the Yunnan provincial government in 1983, the Mt. Huanlianshan Nature Reserve covers an area of about 14,000 hectares. It is noted monsoon broad-leaved evergreen forest ecosystem and other diverse wildlife.
