The first home-grown digital signal processing (DSP) chip developed by researchers of Shanghai Jiaotong University brought about a major breakthrough in China' s chip industry.
The chip, called the HISYS No.1, is a 16-bit processor made with a 0.18 micron semiconductor. It has a 32bit kernel with a maximum frequency of 200 megahertz.
This marks another advance in China's chip design after CAS scientists successfully developed the country' s first home-grown all-purpose central processing Unit (CPU) in 2002. The DSP and CPU represent the two core technologies of the chip industry.
