The Symposium on Development Strategy of Chemical Sciences was held February 15-16, 2003 at Shanghai. The meeting was jointly sponsored by CAS Academic Division of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China. A total of 50 specialists from across the country, including 22 CAS members, attended the gathering.
From the angles of the nation' s overall S&T development and a sustainable development of the whole society, the participants discussed the development trend of chemical sciences and prospective spots for growth and breakthroughs. The meeting was intended to fulfill the advisory task assigned by CAS Academic Divisions General Team on "Study of Development Strategy for Academic Disciplines". It was also expected to put forward proposals for reference to the country' s planning of medium- and long-term S&T development.
CAS members Zhang Lihe, Liu Yuanfang, He Minyuan, and Li Jinghai took turns to chair the meeting. And CAS member Wang Kui delivered the concluding speech.
A series of workshops relevant to the topic will be arranged by ADOC in steps with the progress made of the overall research.
