Prof. Dong Shaojun, a research professor from the CAS Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, was chosen First Winner of the 16th Khwarizmi International Award by the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology for her outstanding research in the field of electroanalytical chemistry.
Prof. Dong has been engaged in electroanalytical chemistry studies for many years and scored many important achievements. She took the lead in conducting research into chemical modified electrodes in China and has made significant progress in field and spectral analyses of spectroelectochemistry. She was elected Fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences in 1999.
This annual award, internationalized in 1993, recognizes scientists making significant contributions in major fields, with the aim of encouraging worldwide scientific and technological activities and motivating scientists to provide concrete solutions to major problems. It memorializes the great 9th century Iranian mathematician and astronomer, Abu Jafar Mohammad ibn Mousa Khwarizmi. Co-organizers include UNESCO, UNDP, WIPO, TWAS, and several other agencies.
