University of Chinese Academy of Sciences

University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is an innovative university that integrates scientific research and education, focuses mainly on graduate education, and is featured with elite undergraduate education. As of December 2022, UCAS had 59,958 postgraduate students on campus, 1,658 undergraduate students, and 1,957 international students (including 1,292 doctoral students, the largest scale in China).

UCAS has the vision to cultivate talents with both virtues and abilities for sci-tech innovation and entrepreneurship by providing abundant resources from the platform of science-education integration. Since its establishment in 1978, UCAS granted the first PhD degree in science, the first PhD degree in engineering, the first PhD degree to a female student, and the first double PhD degree in PRC. 161 UCAS graduates were elected Full Members and Emeritus Members of the CAS and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

UCAS is authorized to grant all master’s and doctoral degrees in the scientific disciplines and 80% of all degrees in the engineering disciplines. According to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) report published in January 2023, UCAS ranks 36th worldwide and 1st among all universities in the Chinese mainland.

UCAS has co-founded international cooperation institutions, including the Sino-Danish College (with the Danish Ministry of Science and Education and eight public universities from Denmark), ICTP-AP (with UNESCO), Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences, and Sino-Danish Research and Education Center. UCAS is determined to help cultivate top-notch international science and technology talents globally through the Chinese government scholarship, the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) grant, and various other programs.
