The launching ceremony of the journal is held on 19 March in Beijing

    The International Journal of Digital Earth (IJDE), first of its kind in the world, has started publication. Its launching ceremony was held on 19 March in Beijing.

    The peer-reviewed quarterly is run by Beijing-based International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) in cooperation with Taylor & Francis Group in England.

    IJDE aims to provide a predominant academic forum for people to exchange ideas, to carry out research and to discuss development problems, says CAS President LU Yongxiang, who is also president of ISDE.

    Officially inaugurated in Beijing on May 21, 2006, ISDE is a non-political, non-governmental and not-for-profit international organization, principally for promotion of academic exchange, science and technology innovation, education, and international collaboration. To strength its research in the field, CAS established a Center for Earth Observations and Digital Earth (CEODE) on 21 November, 2007, in Beijing.

    According to Prof. GUO Huadong, Editor-in-chief of IJDE, the journal welcomes papers with respect to Digital Earth science and technology in various aspects of digital earth study, ranging from theory, framework to architecture and standards. It also deals with geoinformatics, geospatial science, mobile mapping system, visualization and numerical simulation, visible and microwave earth observation, data fusion and integration algorithm, data mining and artificial intelligence, data processing, and integration of remote sensing-GIS-GPS. Besides, the jaournl will also focus on the application of digital earth in society, such as earth systems and global data bases, location based services, global climate change and global-to-local linkages of natural and human systems to improve human conditions, protect ecological systems and support future sustainable development for environmental, social and economic conditions.
