As an organizer of the Fifth Shanghai International Industry Fair (SIF), which opened on Nov. 6, CAS is showcasing a large amount of novel R&D outcomes, which have riveted public attention.
With a theme of Informatization & Industrialization (Modern Equipment), the SIF 2003 has a show space of more than 62,500 square meters with 2,500 booths. The fair is made up of five exhibition halls on electronic information, industrial automation, automobile and components, bioengineering and pharmaceuticals, and S&T innovation.
More than 150 projects from 23 CAS institutes and firms are exhibited at the fair, covering a wide technological spectrum, ranging from electronic information, micro-electronics and software, new materials, electrical equipment, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, agro- technology, environment protection.
These projects, which are high-tech intensive with wide industrial application prospective, show CAS is making basic, strategic and forward-looking contributions regarding traditional industry renovation, industrial structure optimization, informatization, China’s west region development, economic and social progress and national security.
Started in 1999, the SIF is China's only large-scale nationwide industry fair. Over the past five years, the number of exhibitors has increased from 400 to more than 10,000, and the number of booths from about 500 to 25,000. It is expected that the SIF will become international industrial convention such as Hannover Messe in Germany.
