IHEP and CELLS Sign Agreement to Boost Synchrotron Science and Technology

Jul 30, 2025

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Spanish Consortium for the Construction, Equipping and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Source (CELLS) signed a cooperation agreement on July 26, 2025 in Beijing.

This collaboration aims to advance the development of synchrotron science and technology by leveraging the expertise and facilities of both parties, defining the specific collaborative activities and programs between IHEP and CELLS. It will focus on three main areas: accelerator technology, experimental beamline technology, and scientific cooperation.

The signing ceremony took place during the visit of Mr. Salvador Illa, President of Catalan Government, and marked a new chapter in sino-Spain collaboration on synchrotron science and technology.

"It's a good timing for both sides to co-work and it will be beneficial to the synchrotron science community and I believe we can do better by our joint efforts", said Prof. DONG Yuhui, IHEP Deputy Director, during the Spanish delegation's visit to the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS).

These collaborative efforts will foster significant advancements in synchrotron science and technology and contribute to global users and enhance the openness and sustainability of large research infrastructure, thus promoting international cooperation in science and technology.

"We aim at providing solutions for the global challenges which affect the whole world by working together," said Dr. Caterina Biscari, Director of Alba Synchrotron.
