1. Introduction 

As a research institute specializing in virology, viral pathology and virus technology since established in 1956, Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has achieved a series of original accomplishments and scientific contributions. WIV boasts an excellent academic environment and the first-class research facilities including the State Key Laboratory of Virology, the only domestic bio-containment level 4 laboratory (P4) in Wuhan built referring to the international construction standards, and the China Center for Viruses Culture Collection which houses the largest virus bank in Asia. In recent years, WIV has continuously increased international cooperation. It has established good and stable cooperative relationships with various world-renowned universities and scientific institutions. In addition, WIV has been evaluated as the “Center for International Research on Emerging Diseases, Viruses, and Pathology” by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). At present, WIV has integrated in the “CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program”. It has launched to build the Mega-Science Center for Bio-Safety Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which aims to develop basic and applied research on pathogen biology, infectious disease prevention and control, and biological risk prevention, so as to strengthen the combinations among core biotechnology, engineering technology, and new materials technology, build an internationally outstanding team of innovation, research, and development, make breakthroughs in pathogenesis of pathogenic microorganism, protection technology of biosafety and bio-threat prediction, and offer a strong technological support for guaranteeing the national population health, maintaining the national security, and improving the sustainable development of economy and society. 3. Job responsibilities 

Academic deputy director: To accurately master discipline status and development direction of biosafety; to pay attention to strategic planning and forward-looking layout, and to promote major breakthroughs and major innovative achievements that have significant influences; to organize international academic communications at the level of the research institute, and to expand the impact of virology and biosafety in international academic circle; to actively train young talents. 

4. Position conditions and relevant requirements 

Academic deputy director: Having had a position of being a professor in a world-renowned university or a scientific research institute, or being a dean (deputy dean) or chairman (deputy chairman) or equivalent management position; having made outstanding academic achievements in virology and related disciplines; having shown a significant international academic impact and being universally recognized by the international peers; possessing a leadership talent and a team organization ability. 

5. Available support 

Academic deputy director: The research institute will provide a 400-600m2 laboratory, an expense support of RMB 10,000,000-20,000,000, and sufficient stuff positions for building up the team.
