Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve is China's very first nature reserve. It is designated by UNESCO in 1979, Dinghushan is among China's first three Biosphere Reserves. It is a living legacy of ecological and cultural heritage spanning over a millennium.
It is located in Guangdong, southeastern China, Dinghushan is a green gem along the Tropic of Cancer's desert belt. Covering just one-third the size of Macau, it supports a remarkably diverse and complex ecosystem.
Dinghushan is home to over 1,948 species of wild higher plants, more than 43 beast species, and over 277 bird species. Silver pheasants and pangolins roam its ancient forests, while spinulose tree ferns - living fossils - preserve the legacy of prehistoric times. As a natural "biological gene bank" and type locality for many species, Dinghushan stands as a vital biodiversity repository and a key center for scientific research.
