GBOWS has built strong capabilities to preserve and research wild plant germplasm resources, and operates an advanced germplasm resource database and information-sharing management system. It supplies the necessary germplasm resources to support China's biotechnology industry and life sciences research.

    Journey of a Seed to Asia's Largest Germplasm Bank
    This Germplasm Bank of Wild Species (GBOWS), located in the northern suburb of Kunming, the provincial capital, is the largest facility of its kind in Asia. It houses more than 94,000 plant seed accessions from over 11,000 wild species, representing over one-third of China's wild seed plants.

    The Germplasm Bank of Wild Species in southwest China's Yunnan Province, the largest of its kind in Asia, has preserved over 11,000 kinds of wild plant seeds, according to the Kunming Institute of Botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
