Chinese Scientists Construct A Prototype of Vacuum Ultraviolet Photoionization Nucleation Aerosol Mass Spectrometer

Oct 28, 2019

Chinese scientists constructed a prototype of vacuum ultraviolet photoionization nucleation aerosol mass spectrometer, according to Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, who led the project.

The project was done by TANG Xiaofeng and his team and has passed its acceptance test recently.

Based on this project, the team developed new methods to analyze the chemical compositions of ultrafine nanoparticles with size less than 20 nm, including a capillary interface to transfer and focus ultrafine nanoparticle from air into vacuum, a novel cage-shaped photoionization source, and high sensitive orthogonal acceleration reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometry et al.

A prototype of vacuum ultraviolet photoionization nucleation aerosol mass spectrometer has been constructed and several preliminary applications have been applied to on-line analyze the chemical compositions of ultrafine nanoparticles in a nucleation flow tube.
