CAS New Petascale Supercomputer "Era" Now Online

"A new generation of super computer 'era' on-line opening ceremony" was held in the Super Cloud Computing Center, Huairou, Beijing, 19th June, which co-hosted by Computer Network Information Center, Beijing Super Cloud Computing Center and Dawning Information Industry Co., Ltd.As the innovative combination of supercomputing and cloud computing, the new generation of super computer "Era" will lead the industry and set an example. Meanwhile, it will form a huge boost to the HPC and cloud computing industry.
"Era" system will be constructed at two periods, the first of which is 300 TFLOPS. It will reach two PFLOPS next year and integrate a variety of computing resources including NUMA architectures extra-large memory nodes, Intel MIC and Nvidia GPU high-performance accelerator, remote visualization nodes and Godson, ShenWei domestic CPU based on the different environment. This system can fulfill the application demands of multidisciplinary, achieve high speed calculation and fast process and analyze the calculation results. "Era" system will greatly promote the application of domestic independent technology, marking the Beijing city opens a new era of super computing.
As the operation center of super computer 'Era', Beijing Super Cloud Computing Center will always adhere to serve the Beijing's economic and social development, and provide excellent service of super computing and cloud computing services for all industries and enterprises. Nowadays, super cloud computing, as a public technology innovation information service platform, has made an achievement from the teraflops to petascale, which will promote huge development of industry chain transformation and upgrading. Furthermore, it will boost the science &technology and economy of Beijing, even the whole country.
The corresponding English Word of “元" is Era, which represents a new period of enhancing CAS supercomputing from terascale to petascale.
