How Do We Track a Solar Storm for 40 Hours?

We've partnered with ESA, combining expertise from CAS and ESA to study how the Sun and Earth interact.

Instead of just passing by, we stay where it matters. From a highly elliptical orbit, SMILE slows down above the northern polar region, spending more time over the dayside magnetosphere — where solar wind interactions are strongest.

By combining global imaging with in-situ measurements, we can see the whole system and measure the details.
