Caught in the Act: Witnessing a Black Hole's Feast

On July 2, 2025, the Einstein Probe caught a rare cosmic drama unfolding 8 billion light-years away: a black hole tearing apart and devouring a white dwarf. From the first flicker of anomalous X-rays, the probe tracked event EP250702a—possibly the first direct evidence of an intermediate-mass black hole destroying a white dwarf.
