Professor YAN was born in May 1964 in Shanghai. He works as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and holds a concurrent post as the Party Secretary of The Administrative Bureau of CAS.
He used to serve as deputy director of the Institute of Chemistry of CAS, deputy director of the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, deputy director of the preparation office for the Ningbo Institute of Material Technology and Engineering (NIMTE), secretary of the Disciplinary Committee of NIMTE, and director of the Bureau of Science and Technology for Development.
