China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (Sri Lanka) facilitates cooperation in areas such as marine meteorological disasters, marine ecosystems, drinking water safety, environmental protection, biodiversity protection, and underwater archeology, with the goal of fostering professional talent and improving scientific research capacity in Sri Lanka. As part of its effort, the center has established a system to advance Sri Lanka’s marine meteorological forecasting. It has also set up the Water Technology Research and Demonstration Center, which aims to identify the causes of frequent chronic renal disease in central and northern Sri Lanka. The latter organization also aims to transfer water treatment technology from CAS and domestic Chinese enterprises to Sri Lanka.
