One of the big messages in recent years has been the need to create a green, environmentally friendly Belt and Road. On Wednesday, participants at the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation joined a meeting on green development in Beijing, to discuss some of the concrete measures taken by partner countries. Zheng Yibing has more.

The Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is centering various green development initiatives by partner countries, with participants promising to support one another in the creation of a sustainable and environmentally-friendly Silk Road.

HAN ZHENG, Chinese Vice President "China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core, and will, within its capacity, increase support for the least developed countries, small island states, African countries and other developing countries in addressing climate change."

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the importance of linking all countries, to promote global sustainable development.

ANTONIO GUTERRES, United Nations Secretary-General "The green silk road is an important tool that can help us all pull out of the dead ends of the past and set us on the new pathway that benefits people and planets alike."

Global leaders and international organizations are gathering to discuss and express their expectations for future cooperation. The high-level forum introduced an initiative for green development among Belt and Road Initiative participating countries. It also introduced a partnership for investment and financing, as well as an action plan for green technology in Central Asia.

ERIK SOLHEIM, Vice President, BRI International Green Development Coalition "Now, belt and road is an enormous vehicle for green development, green energy like wind and solar and hydro, but also green corridors."

ZHANG JIANYU, Executive Director, BRI International Green Development Institute "I think Belt and Road participating countries. I think they should really embrace the overall trend of the green and low carbon development, as we heard from the leaders."

ZHANG YUANMING, Director, Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences "We launched the Green Technology Development Action Plan for Central Asia, and we invited partners from Central Asian countries and several institutions in China to launch it together."

ALISHER SHUKUROV, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan "We are launching one of the initiatives which is participating five central Asian countries. So it will be great to transfer knowledge, to transfer experience and to share the green tools and green technologies among these countries."

ZHENG YIBING, Beijing "The participating countries vowed to be committed to working with each other on promoting green development at this critical time of addressing climate change.
