The biodiversity in arid areas is unique and fragile, especially due to severe losses caused by global changes and human activities. We actively participate in conservation work, build an ex-situ conservation system, carry out research and development of conservation technologies, and explore and utilize important stress resistant gene resources.

A series of fieldwork were conducted in the Protected Areas of Myanmar under the auspices of MoU between both parties (Forest Department of Myanmar and Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences), resulting in discoveries of many new species and new records from Myanmar.
